15th May 2011

I am up early and have my include breakfast at the hotel, and then I am off to collect my hire car. I get a red Nissan Micra that has had a hard life and has the scars to prove it the hire car lady kindly drives me to a main exit point or I would have had fun getting out of the city she points out that the hooter is the most important part of driving in Crete , it’s not even 5 minutes and some nutter is hooting at me talk about road rage these guys need counselling … here they drive on the left which I am quite used to but fritz is right hand drive and big ,this car is left hand drive and small I can’t tell you how many times I put the window winder into gear and spent time looking for the seat belt buckle then there are the scooter riders who just appear out of everywhere doesn’t matter what side of the road they just go ,no helmets here  … So I am off to Chersonisos   to find a place to base myself at. I find a nice place on the beach front it is budget, but I would rather spent the euros on getting around and seeing what I can for the two days I am here. I decide to head off to Agios Nikolaos, I get as far as Elounta and the hired GPS is nearly the window but I did get to see quite a lot of the country side! I wanted to have a traditional meal so stopped at a restaurant on the beach and had the catch of the day with a Greek power salad the onions here are the strongest I have ever tasted they also revised a few times during the hour after lunch.
