11th May 2011

I am supposed to leave for Crete to day but have decided to stay until Friday so I will be flying on the 13th to Crete … we are taking a drive to the mountains of Troodos where there is skiing in winter and then we go to the highest point of Olympus where on a clear day you can see The mountains in Turkey. Cypress is divided in two as the Turks invaded in the 70s so there is a border to cross in the centre of the town of Nicosia which requires a stamp on a piece of paper, not your passport?. For the first 500mtr there are jewellery stores on both sides of the road the clothing shops, a shoppers delight! After some light refreshments we eventually found the Church of St Sophia which was built in the 1570`s and since the Turks have occupied this side of the city they have turned it in to a Mosque. Then we found the Buyuk Han which was an inn for the traveling trades men .by this time it dark and we are on our way home.
